Catalina Island's Buffalo Milk Trail includes more than a dozen bars and restaurants that serve Catalina Island's signature cocktail, the Buffalo Milk, a deceptively delicious concoction that includes bananas, creme de cacao, vodka and Kahlua.

Brought to the Island for a film in the 1920's and never left.

In the 1920's 14 bison came to Catalina Island for the filming of a feature film. They were allowed to stay and have become an integral part of Catalina Island. Cared for by the Catalina Island Conservancy, the herd, now around 100 bison, roam wild within Catalina Island's vast wildlands. Several of our island tour companies offer tours of the interior where you can view bison, Catalina Island fox and American Bald Eagles.

"Buffalo Milk" was created by a bartender at Harbor Reef in Two Harbors. Bartender Michael Hoffler was famous for creating new drink creations and testing them out on the staff during the quieter winter months. This drink was a big hit and has been on the menu ever since. The drink has made it's way into most restaurants and bars on Catalina Island. Think of it as a White Russian gone crazy.
