Hiking to Castle Rock is a short yet steep trek that leads to stunning views of Big Bear Lake. The trail is only 1.5 miles long, but has an increase in elevation of over 500 feet, so be sure to pack your hiking shoes and some water! There is limited parking along the side of the road just past the trailhead when heading from the dam towards town. The trail is clearly marked with signs and cairns leading the way. The regal Castle Rock will start to be visible about 0.4 miles into the trail. At about 0.6 miles, the trail will bend to the left; however, if you want to go to the rock itself, look for the Castle Rock sign on a tree to your right. Head in that direction and make your way up the rock. Enough people have traversed the rock that a path has formed, but less experienced hikers might need to use their hands a bit to assist their way up the rocks. Go at your own pace and only as far as you feel comfortable. You will be rewarded with plenty of gorgeous views at all points on this hike!
