Bishop, CA is nestled between the Sierra Nevada and White Mountain ranges. Highway 395 runs north and south, and is the road that connects Bishop to Los Angeles and Reno. Bishop is located about 4 hours north of Los Angeles and 4 hours south of Reno. If you haven't visited, we encourage you to put it on your list of road trips! HIghway 168 East
Bishop, California, United States
Highway 168 East is about 15 miles south of Bishop and is the road that takes you to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest where you can walk amongst some of the oldest trees on the planet. If you continue on Highway 168, to CA-266, and then onto Highway 95, you will end up in Las Vegas, which is also roughly 4 hours away.

Endless Majestic Views of Mt.Tom

Bishop lies in the Owens Valley and almost any road you take, you will have stunning view of Mt. Tom. Mt. Tom's elevation is 13,652, so it's hard to miss!

Scenic Road to Lake Sabrina

Highway 168 W takes you up into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. From town, you can be up at alpine lakes like South Lake or Lake Sabrina in about 25 minutes. There are numerous trailheads and places to fish along the way that are great for late spring, summer and fall. Please check road conditions on this road as there are winter closures once you get above the snowline.

Highway 395

Highway 395 is the main highway through the Owens Valley and the views from the road are beautiful. Taking Highway 395 South, you can arrive at Death Valley via CA-136 E in about 2.5 hours. Mammoth Lakes is 45 minutes north of Bishop, and further north you can access Yosemite via CA-120 W (road closes in the winter), or Bodie State Historic Park (it's a Ghost Town) via CA-167 in about 2 hours (which is open year-round, but you might have to hike in if the road is closed in the winter due to snow so check ahead of time). Soooo, needless to say, there is A LOT of exploring to do here!
