Madison has embraced the plastic pink flamingo as part of its culture since the 1970s when a group of University of Wisconsin-Madison students flooded Bascom Hill with hundreds of plastic pink flamingos. Flamingos can be seen around the city, including as Madison's semi-pro soccer team's mascot.
