Just about an hour away from San Francisco is one of the most unique spots to watch the sunset in California because you get to experience a one of a kind weather phenomenon. Best spot to see it is on Mount Tamalpais in Mill Valley, CA

Most people say there is no way to predict when cloud inversions will occur. However, as a local, if you’re around the Golden Gate Bridge, and it is extremely foggy while some areas of Marin County are warm, then you have a higher chance of seeing them on Mount Tam!

The top of Mount Tamalpais is the best spot to view them because you’re traveling to a higher elevation above the clouds.
Marin County, CA
To get to this exact viewpoint, type in “trojan point” in Google Maps. There is a parking lot on the right side and can fit about 25-30 cars. No bathrooms around the area and remember to pick up your trash if you plan to have a picnic here too. Park Hours: Daily: 7:00 a.m. to Sunset

Pantoll Rd
Mill Valley, CA
Whether you’re able to experience cloud inversions or not, this spot is still a wonderful place to watch the sunset! I recommend arriving at least an hour before sunset so you’re able to enjoy the ambiance and the views of the rolling hills.

If you want to film a cool video where the clouds and fog are rolling through like this one, make sure to bring a tripod for your phone or camera and film a time-lapse for about 10minutes!
