Munising is located at the top of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula along Lake Superior. The area was first settled in the 1850s when Munising Iron Company platted the first village. Since that time, Munising has become a vibrant community rich in history, beautiful scenery and natural wonders.

Pictured Rocks Interpretive Center is located in a historic building in downtown Munising. The center features a self-guided tour about Pictured Rocks, local history, Native American history, and a narrated 13-minute video of the local fishing industry. There is also a gift shop with t-shirts, sweatshirts, jewelry, local art, photography and other gifts and souvenirs.

Munising Falls is a must see!
Munising, MI
One of Munising’s most beloved spots is Munising Falls, located 1.5 mi NE of downtown Munising when you follow H-58 to Washington St, and go one-half mile. Munising Falls has improved trails and you can access the fall in under 15 minutes or less. The falls are located at the start of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. It’s one of the easiest waterfalls to visit in the UP!

Miners Castle is one of the UP’s most famous spots!
Alger County, MI
Miners Castle is located about 5 miles east of Munising on Alger County Road H-58, then 6 miles north on Miners Castle Road (H11). It is one of the most famous landmarks along the Pictured Rocks shoreline, and is the only cliff area in the park accessible by vehicle. Leashed pets permitted. From the parking lot, a short paved wheelchair accessible trail leads past interpretive exhibits to breathtaking overlooks of Lake Superior and Grand Island. All visitors must have an entrance pass to enter Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Passes are purchased per vehicle and depend on the length of your visit.

The friendly staff is there to help you see the Pictured Rocks, find beautiful waterfalls or the best trail. Whether you are snowmobiling, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, camping, or enjoying our beaches, Munising, Michigan is your perfect up north vacation. Also visit the Munising Visitor Center, conveniently located on M-28 east and open 7 days a week during the summer season. If you want to tour the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, relax in the Hiawatha National Forest, visit Grand Island, hike to waterfalls, kayak, lodging, camping, explore shops & restaurants a visit to these centers is key!
