There are three different lines/routes with numerous stops across the city, so if you are using the cable cars as a means of transportation, click the link below to find out which route is best for you! Not sure what ticket to get? If you want to start and end at the same stop, you’ll need a roundtrip ticket because you’ll be asked to disembark at the end of the line if there are people waiting.

There are three different cable car lines that transport you through various popular neighborhoods.

Tickets can be purchased at the end of the line for each route. Much like any popular experience, the best time to ride the cable cars is earlier in the day if you want to avoid long lines or crowded cars. Local Tip: If you don’t mind testing your luck during peak season, walk a block or two down the line and look for the “Cable Car” sign. The conductors often leave a little room for pick-ups. You might have to wait for a few cable cars, but it tends to be quicker than waiting in line at the main lines.
