This is personally one of my favorite hikes in San Diego!

It’s about a 1.5 mile hike next to San Elijo Lagoon

There are multiple trails to hike in the area, but keep following the signs for Annie’s Canyon

Annie’s Canyon trail is very short but difficult. It’s not for someone who is claustrophobic or inexperienced.

This trail is a loop. I suggest starting your hike by going through the slot canyons and ending with the switchbacks.

However there are 2 trails to the viewpoint! If you don’t want to hike through the canyons, you can hike up the switchbacks.

It can get muddy and slippery, so be careful!

Wear hiking boots, sneakers or durable shoes.

The canyon starts off wide and gets pretty narrow further on.

…but towards the middle it becomes super narrow. It’s about the width of 1 person.

I would suggest leaving the dog at home for this hike.

To reach the viewpoint, you climb up a ladder.

Be careful on the ladder! This part is short but difficult.

And can see the canyon from above!

As well as the Lagoon

There are nature centers around the area to learn more.

The way back down consists of some switchbacks. It’s pretty short and easy.

This hike gets pretty busy on the weekends. I suggest going early or during the week to avoid the crowds.
