this trail is still pure beauty!
It may be the off-season…
but even in the rain
British Columbia, Canada
We were always on alert watching the rain clouds. Make sure to pack for the weather and always bring lots of layers. The mud sticks around for quite sometime after it rains here. But no matter what the weather was like, this trail is still one of the most beautiful trails on Vancouver Island!

Just make sure to always stay informed on the changing tides
Capital, BC
One thing about having parts of the trail on the beach is to watch out for the changing of the tides. Always do your research to check the tide tables before setting out on your hike, and make sure to keep an eye on the time when the tide will be coming in. The tide changes quickly and it rises much higher than you would think!

There’s so many great water sources along the trail
So make sure to filter your water!
British Columbia, Canada
There is so many great water sources along the trail so you’ll never have to worry about being without. Make sure to bring your preferred method to filter your water. Even the clearest streams should be properly filtered! And never drink the ocean water.

There’s no shortage of ocean views from the new tent pads that were recently built at the campsites along the trail
Juan de Fuca Marine Trail
Capital, BC
There has been some amazing upgrades made to the campsites this year. Including some beautiful new tent pads to keep you off the wet ground and still overlooking the ocean. We fell asleep to the sounds of the ocean and were kept safely away from the changing tides. This was by far our favourite campsite of the trail.

We ate ramen and gummies for dinner, nothing better!
Juan de Fuca Marine Trail
Capital, BC
The new sites also had great overhead shade from the trees, keeping a few more raindrops away from us while we ate dinner and got our tents setup for bed time. Ramen will always be a favourite for hiking meals!

No matter the rain,
there is beauty around every corner
or with blue skies,
British Columbia, Canada
We did get a quick blessing of sunshine one morning but even in the rain and mud, this trail is still a pure beauty this time of year. Check trail conditions and do your research for any trail closures, and you can enjoy the Juan de Fuca trail at any time of the year!

The trail takes you through a beautiful cedar forest with these giant old growth trees to bask in
12287 BC-14
Capital H (Part 2), BC
Seeing these giants in their natural habitat, thriving in the rain forest, now that is a sight to see! You go in and out of the old growth forests along the trail. The moody glow of the rain made it all the more enchanting.

And so many mushrooms to learn about!
See the blunt cross veins in this one?
British Columbia, Canada
Make sure to keep your eyes open for all the amazing mushrooms and fungi you can spot! I was thankful to have friends who knew what they were talking about when it came to mushrooms. It’s always nice to learn something new on each new trail I take.

This goes down as one of my favourite hikes on Vancouver Island
British Columbia, Canada
With its super natural beauty around every corner, a little bit of challenge when we wanted it, and the most amazing ocean front campsites. This trail is one you won’t want to miss! It has to go down as one of my favourite trails on Vancouver Island.
