When the Washington Monument opened in 1884, it was the world’s tallest structure before the Eiffel Tower was built. Today, it’s the world’s largest free-standing stone structure open daily with timed tours. Same-day, free tickets are available at 8:45 a.m. at the nearby Washington Monument Lodge on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets can be reserved online a month before and again a day before for $1.
