Devil's Falls, Colfax, California
Yankee Jims Rd
Colfax, CA
The drive out to the historic Yankee Jim's Bridge above the North Fork American River is not for the faint of heart. If a 1-lane gravel road overlooking sheer cliffs doesn't phase you, then venture out to this two-pronged seasonal waterfall. It is best visited in Spring after heavy rains. Be sure to keep an eye out for Poison Oak, and bring a travel buddy along, as this is a more remote location.

Stevens Trail, Colfax, California
Colfax, California, United States
Listed on the National Register of Historical Places, the Stevens Trail is a gorgeous all-seasons hike that includes a waterfall in the Spring months about 1.5 miles from the trailhead. At about the 2 mile mark, you'll find a 50 foot deep cave, the remnants of the gold mining days. The further you go, the more exposed the trail gets (no tree cover). Be wary of this in the hot summer months. Be sure to pack plenty of water, dress in layers, and bring a travel buddy! The hike down is easy, but the hike back up to the parking lot is moderately difficult. Keep this in mind as you continue to add mileage to your hike. Have fun out there!

Windy Point, Colfax, California
Placer County, CA
This short but difficult trail (steep, rocky terrain) has superb views of the North Fork American River Canyon. In Springtime, the native Poppies, Lupines, Monkeyflowers, Buttercups, Goldfields, and Purple Owl Clover color the steep hillsides. There are many native butterflies in this particular area! In summertime, the trail is rather exposed, so be sure to head out in the early morning so as to avoid heat exhaustion. Also be wary of the depth and speed of the river in this area. Be sure to travel with friend, bring plenty of water, snacks, and pack in / pack out. Have fun, and be safe out there!
