The Monument to Joe Louis, also known as "The Fist" was gifted to Detroit by Sports Illustrated in 1986. The Guardian Building in downtown Detroit is an art deco masterpiece. The lobby has a three-story vaulted ceiling covered in an Aztec design made of Pewabic tiles and Rookwood pottery, and there is also Belgian black marble, Italian Travertine marble, and African Numidian marble in the columns and on the stairs. There is also a beautiful mural of Michigan near the back of the lobby.

The James Scott Memorial Fountain, located on Belle Isle, is another iconic attraction that you must-see while visiting Detroit. Designed by architect Cass Gilbert and sculptor Herbert Adams, the fountain was dedicated in 1925 to honor the controversial Detroit philanthropist James Scott. The fountain features carved marble statues of angels and lions, making this the perfect Instagrammable spot!
