South Beach is the first beach that visitors come to when arriving in Avalon via ferry. It is located on the south side of the Green Pleasure Pier. Two sets of steps lead down to the water.

Descanso Beach Club is a private club that is open to the public. Their motto is "put a drink in your hand and your feet in the sand." This is one of the few beaches in California that you can consume alcohol on the beach. Enjoy open air dining and beachside drinks. Cabana and lounge chair rentals are available.
