Originally completed as part of Daniel Burnham’s 1909 Plan for Chicago, Navy Pier is an iconic city landmark, inspiring discovery and wonder. Throughout its years, Navy Pier has shifted purposes time and time again, adapting to the needs of the nation. Since its completion in 1916, the Pier has been instrumental in both World Wars, served as an exhibition space, hosted a summer music festival and more before finally becoming the nationally known destination it is today. Since its rebirth in 1995, more than 180 million visitors have come to enjoy the Pier's 50 acres of unparalleled attractions and experiences. Originally named Municipal Pier, it was renamed Navy Pier in honor of the U.S. Navy and for the role it played in both World Wars.

Housed in Navy Pier, Chicago Children’s Museum is intentionally designed for experimentation, creativity, and learning for all children. Navy Pier is open year round except for select holidays. The general hours of operation are Sunday-Thursday from 11am-9pm and Friday/Saturday from 11am-10pm. There is no admission fee to enter Navy Pier. Attractions within Navy Pier may have admission prices and those prices can be obtained from each individual attraction’s box office.
