Homemade Floats
Cayucos, California, United States
How it started... A loosely organized band of locals decided to have a July 4 “Cayucos parade” at the traditional start time of 10 AM on the same N. Ocean Avenue route after the Chamber of Commerce couldn’t get a parade permit with limited planning time once the state cleared our town June 15 for large events. No, Ocean Avenue - the main drag through downtown - wasn’t closed. Parade watchers who got wind of the plan lined along the route in their beach chairs or stood and clapped, waving tiny flags and cheering the rogue stream of skateboarders, bicyclists, golf carts, decorated cars and people on foot with flags along with the flow of traffic on the busiest day of the year in this tiny California beach town.

At dusk (9pm-ish) it's time for fireworks at the pier! No tickets necessary. IMPORTANT: If you're visiting Cayucos on the 4th, do your part to keep illegal fireworks away, park only in legal spots, pack out your trash, respect everyone's safe space and celebrate responsibly. Our annual fireworks spectacular cannot happen without community support. Every year. we rely heavily on community donations, from permanent residents, second home and vacation homeowners, businesses, and visitors.
