Picnic tables and grills invite you to stay for the day. Trash and recycling bins help keep the park clean. Dogs on leash are welcome. Horseback riding trails can be accessed from the shelter house parking lot and behind the castle. Follow the appropriate blazes, as horses are only allowed on the bridle trail.

With ample parking, the Shelter House is available to use from 6 am-11 pm. It is not reservable but is a shared space, first come, first served.

There are many trails in North Chagrin Reservation if you want to add a hike to your castle adventure. Follow Squire’s Castle Loop Trail for a 2.1-mile moderate hike through the woods and circle back to the castle. Enter the trails just behind the castle and follow the castle blazes.

Completed in 1897 as a gatehouse to a much larger envisioned estate, the original structure had a ground floor, two upper floors, and a basement. The windows were leaded glass.
