There is about 18 miles of rough dirt and sand road to reach this lighthouse. In fact, the road did not officially reach the lighthouse until 1999 when the last 1/2 mile was finished. Plan to allow extra time to take it slow; a 4x4 vehicle is helpful. This is a seasonal road, and becomes a snowmobile trail in winter.
