Built in 1853, the church was designated the cathedral church of the Diocese of Baton Rouge by Pope John XXIII in the bull of erection "Peramplum Novae Aureliae" dated July 22, 1961; the erection of the diocese took place on November 8, 1961, with Most Rev. Robert Emmet Tracy as is first bishop. The church building underwent a significant interior renovation in 1967 and was re-dedicated on September 30, 1970. The Cathedral's interior has been renovated in a style which is modern, inspirational and magnificent. Its exterior remains unchanged. St. Joseph, Catholic Church is in Downtown Baton Rouge, the Mother Church of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. It it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 22, 1990.

Louisiana’s Old State Capitol is one of the most unique and historic buildings in Louisiana. The Gothic structure was built in 1850 and today is a museum showcasing Louisiana’s unique political history.

LSU Memorial Tower

Louisiana State University's 175-foot structure was built in 1923 and dedicated in 1926 by the American Legion as a memorial to Louisianians who died in World War I. On the rotunda walls are bronze plaques bearing the names of those to whom the Tower is dedicated.

Built by Huey P. Long in 1930 as “Louisiana's White House,” the Old Governor's Mansion is now a historic house museum and the headquarters of the Foundation for Historical Louisiana. The Mansion reopened to the public in November 1999 after an extensive restoration and features furnishings and artifacts from nine Louisiana governors, a grand ballroom, French wallpaper, crystal chandeliers and a beautiful marble staircase.

The Red Stick Sculpture

This Baton Rouge landmark is a commemorative sculpture by the late SU Alumni Frank Hayden, erected on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus to mark the site of the famous exchange on Scott's Bluff that gave the city of Baton Rouge its name, meaning "Red Stick" in French.
