Take a quick hike from Highway 1 out to the bluffs and check out the shipwreck! Here's the story: The grounded commercial fishing vessel - the Point Estero - is a draw for curious visitors and photographers alike. Here’s the story: The boat crashed on rocks near the Estero Bluffs State Park north of Cayucos in July 2017, upon return to Morro Bay harbor from fishing for slime eels. No one was injured, and the owner relinquished possession of his boat. Within 48 hours the U.S. Coast Guard, California State Parks and U.S. Fish and Wildlife cleared the vessel of all hazardous materials and pollutants. However, due to jurisdiction and funding issues, the ship has been left to sit in its original resting place among the rocks. If you go: Plan your visit to the cove around the low/minus tides. There’s not an easy, clear path down, so consider wearing hiking shoes. Boarding the corroding boat is not advisable. At low tide enjoy exploring the nearby tidepools. 🌊

No one seems to know the story behind who or why someone has glued thousands of pennies on the giant boulder facing the reservoir. Cayucos, CA reached out to Whale Rock Manager Noah Evans with questions. It’s apparently been around for at least 10 years. Other than that, Noah and his staff are as stumped as we are.
