Despite this tragedy, the Nisga’a people and traditions have carried on and it’s beautiful to see how they are still so connected with the land.

Stop #2: Sii T’ax / Lava Lake
There’s 18 stops on the Auto Tour with stunning landscapes and a look into the culture of the Nisga’a people
Kitimat-Stikine, BC
Lava Lake was formed by a glacier moving through the Nass Valley. When the volcanic eruption happened in 1780, the creek flowing from the lake was dammed and enlarged the lake, raising it by 30m. The water is cold, but perfect for a quick dip on a hot day!

Stop #18: Gingolx / Nisga’a Village
There are many stops along the way! I would recommend 2-3 full days to explore the area entirely
Gingolx, British Columbia, Canada
If you make it to Gingolx, you need to get lunch or dinner at “U” Seafood “U” Eat It! They have the best fish and chips (among some other seafood dishes).
