There are 218 acres of woodland and prairie that surrounds this 45 acre lake. This lake is recognized as the first County Conservation built lake in Iowa. BCCB began creating a county park after acquiring this site from members of the Hannen family in 1958. Construction of the 40 acre lake began in 1960 and required moving over 56,000 cubic yards of earth, placing 1,350 tons of stone rip rap, and constructing a 600 foot long dam.
