Carnival also known as the fifth season, is what we celebrate during late winter. The carnival season traditionally begins on November 11 and the fun ends on Ash Wednesday. Between this Time everybody is dressed up and people will be dancing and singing by parading through the city and shout "Alaaf" or "Helau". This kinds of festivals have been celebrated in ancient times. And just to let you know, the first shrove Monday parade took place in Cologne in 1823.

Particularly extensivly and stylish cultivated is this beautiful tradition in the southern German state of Bavaria. Since 1755, we have celebrated the Bergkirchweih every year at Whitsun. A twelve-day folk festival that takes place annually in the university town of Erlangen. Just to let you know, this is where Oktoberfest comes from. At the end of September the visitor get dressed up in dirdl and leather pants and enjoy a Maß of beer and Weißwurst.
