There are so many places to catch a stunning sunset in Cayucos. Estero Bluffs offers a clear view over the sea and lovely, uncrowded trails, plus a secret shipwreck!

The Central Coast is fortunate to have a wide variety of sea life and other wildlife all around us. When it comes to wildlife viewing in the heart of Highway 1, it’s not a question of if you’ll get to see whales, butterflies, birds or sea otters—it’s when. This is one of the richest places in the world for seeing wildlife up close, but you don’t have to go far to find it. Because we specialize in small seaside towns, the natural habitats for a wide variety of resident and migratory species can thrive, unthreatened.

You can frequently see whales and other sea life from the Cayucos Pier and shore, as well as from our local hiking trails. But to see them up close, hear them breathe and smell their stinky whale scent is another thing altogether. It's an experience you will never forget!

The Cayucos July 4th events each year bring together thousands of visitors, transforming our small beach town into a lively coastal destination. From the town parade featuring handmade floats to the Front Street Faire and sand sculpture contest to the spectacular fireworks show from the pier, our Independence Day celebrations shouldn’t be missed! Here’s what you’ll want to know about the day’s activities: 🧨 Early risers can join in the Sand Sculpture contest at Cayucos Pier. No pre-registration necessary. Arrive around 5am and wrap up by 10am. Prizes for adults and kids. 🧨 10am Parade Starts! We recommend arriving to town early to find parking. Paid parking is an option at the field below the Bella Vista MHP: The Cayucos Education Foundation is partnering with Cayucos School students for their 4th of July parking fundraiser toward the annual 8th grade trip to Yosemite. These paid spots do fill up - please arrive to town early! 🧨 The Front Street Faire is open until 6 pm. 🧨 9pm (as dusk allows) Fireworks at the pier! No tickets necessary. IMPORTANT: If you’re visiting Cayucos on the 4th, please do your part to keep illegal fireworks away, park only in legal spots, pack out your trash, respect everyone’s safe space and celebrate responsibly. 🧨There will be an organized beach cleanup on Friday the 5th through ecoslo. If you’d like to participate, please meet at the foot of the pier for the cleanup 9AM-11AM. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and are encouraged to bring a hat, water and sunscreen. Cleanup buckets, litter grabbers and reusable gloves are provided by ECOSLO. (Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves if you have them.) Questions? Contact ECOSLO’s Volunteer Coordinator, Ellie, at Ellie@ecoslo.org or call/text 805-710-8017. 🧨 General questions about the Cayucos 4th can be directed to the cayucoschamber at cayucoschamber@gmail.com or by calling (805) 995-1200. We wish you a very happy 4th! Photos 📷: danna_joy_images

Shout out to my hometown ❤️ These are some of my winning entries in this year’s California Mid-State Fair photography contest that were all shot in Cayucos. Don’t know yet if they’re 1st, 2nd or 3rd. They’ll be up in the Ponderosa Pavilion the two weeks of the fair, which opens July 17. See you there! #cayucos #cayucospier #sunsetphotography #californiamidstatefair #photographycontest #cayucospier #cabeaches #cayucoscalifornia

If you were #kitesurfing on Sunday 06/02 around 2pm at #cayucos, this might be you! Great show! The best time to surf in Cayucos is fall —September and October, specifically. Get out in the water early in the morning to avoid winds, and enjoy the long-interval swells from the west. Fall is also the best time to explore pretty much anywhere on our stretch of Highway 1. Put the board in the back, roll down the windows, and find yourself on Cayucos’s wide-open beaches and waves.
