Mono County, CA

With many trails around the lake, this is a great place to walk around and take in the views of the Eastern Sierras. The trails are also fairly flat so it is definitely a family friendly area, though watch out for rocks as they can be sharp. The most unusual feature of Mono Lake are its dramatic tufa towers emerging from the surface. These rock towers form when underwater springs rich in calcium mix with the waters of the lake, which are rich in carbonates. The resulting reaction forms limestone.
