From U-Pick to roadside markets, there’s no shortage of delicious, locally grown food to fill your kitchen (and belly)! Apples, plums, peaches, pumpkins, nuts, squash, pears, and grapes are some of the most common fruits and veggies available in the fall in the Okanagan. Located in West Kelowna, Paynter’s Fruit Market has U-Pick fruit, a fruit and veggie market, and a even a farm tour! In the fall, they have U-Pick for pears, apples, and plums. Exact dates vary, check their website for when to visit. U-Pick fruit is a lot of fun at Paynter’s! We had a great afternoon picking apples in the orchards (we were too late in the season for peaches) and treated ourselves to a fresh donut outside the market! We couldn’t believe that we had the orchard to ourselves! We juiced our apples at home — nothing beats fresh, local apple juice!

Located in Lake Country, Rose Hill Orchards was the last orchard we found that had U-Pick plums so late in the season! They also have U-Pick apples and open up their entire orchard for U-Pick in the fall. Throughout the year they have cherries, peaches, strawberries, and other berries. As we walked down to the plum trees, chickens greeted us and waited patiently for us to accidentally shake plums onto the ground for their dinner. They kept us company the entire time! In the fall, Rose Hill had U-Pick plums and apples plus a great farm market that features local vendors and their very own apple juice.

Nut picking at Gellatly Nut Farm is like Easter egg hunting in the fall! This century-old nut farm on the shores of Okanagan Lake is a fun way to spend an afternoon. There are chestnuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, butternuts, heartnuts, and buartnuts to be found — if you look close enough! Between the many squirrels and other wildlife enjoying the nuts and your fellow nut-pickers, it takes a keen eye to spot the nuts hidden at the base of the beautiful trees. It’s a lot harder than you may think which makes the pay off even better when you finally spot that little nut! We brought along a blanket and had a little picnic in the nut orchard with the apples we’d picked earlier in the day.

If you’re after giant pumpkins, look no further than Bilga Farms! You’ll need lots of trunk space for these pumpkins. Located in the north end of Rutland, this farm has all kinds of yummy, fresh produce. Although it’s not U-Pick, you still get the experience of buying local and meeting the farmers.

Farm Markets & Stands
In Kelowna
Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada
It’s almost impossible to visit Kelowna during the fall and not spot a fruit or veggie stand from one of our orchards! No matter where you go or which stand you find, you’ll be treated to delicious produce that the Okanagan is famous for. Stop in, grab some goodies, and enjoy everything our Kelowna farmer’s have to offer. My personal favourites to treat myself to are local cherry juice, crisp apples, sweet grapes, and juicy pears!
