In order to let the world visit these sites themselves, earlier this year the Villa Méditerrané unveiled their replica of the caves with the help of Société Kléber Rossillon, Musée d’Anthropologie préhistorique de Monaco, and the Conseil régional Provence – Alpes – Côte d’Azur – Région SUD.

Filled with prehistoric art of marine animals like penguins, seals, and even jellyfish-like motifs, the caves are found off the coast of Marseille, submerged in the Mediterannean waters for thousands of years.

The goal of the project was not only to expose the world to this cultural wonder, never before accessible, but also to shine a light on climate change as it affected the past and today.
