The ride takes around 40 minutes and offers passengers the opportunity to see the local bird and marine life. Once you make it across, check out Fort Gaines Historic Site and the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. After you've finished exploring Dauphin Island, you can hop onto the ferry and travel back to Fort Morgan, as trips leave every hour and a half.

Dad is only a safety briefing away from driving his own boat along the Intracoastal Waterway and back bays of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach (following a guide boat). Orange Beach Cat Boats are small and quiet, with enough room for two passengers, and they sit low on the water for quick spotting of dolphins. Drivers must be 21 or older, and passengers as young as five are allowed. The two-hour guided tours leave from Caribe Marina in Orange Beach.

Fort Morgan

If Dad is a history buff, he'll love exploring the tunnels and barracks at Historic Fort Morgan. This third-system masonry fort has stood tall, guarding Mobile Bay for over a century.
