You can dive deeper into the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Voice to the Voiceless Gallery. Photography, cell phones, and video recording are not allowed in the Voice to the Voiceless Gallery, but you can use your phone in other parts of the museum.

The Lunch Counter Sit-In is one of the most powerful experiences at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Sit down, put on a pair of headphones, place your hands on the counter, and feel the chair shaking beneath you and screaming in your eyes. This simulation helps visitors experience what non-violent protestors went through in 1960 during these types of sit-ins.

Lastly, spend some time reflecting at this glass and steel water sculpture outside the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. You’ll find quotations from Nelson Mandela and Margaret Mead. The National Center for Civil and Human Rights is open Tuesday through Friday and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm. It’s open on Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm. You can buy tickets online or at the museum. General admission for adults is $19.99. Youth tickets cost $15.99. Seniors are $17.99.
