Foresthill Bridge

Foresthill Rd
Auburn, CA

The Foresthill Bridge spans across 2,428 feet over the stunning vistas of the American River’s North Fork and is reported to be the tallest in California at 730 feet. As you walk across, read decades of homemade inscriptions made by passersby through the years, many of them a monument to past and present relationships. A fun fact for movie buffs: the bridge was used in 2002’s xXx starring Vin Diesel. The film shows his character driving a stolen car off of the bridge and then jumping out of the car mid-air and parachuting down to the bottom of the American River Canyon! We don’t recommend trying this.

Auburn Art Park

A 45-ton concrete statue of a Gold Rush era miner stands at the entrance to Old Town Auburn, a small collection of shops, restaurants, and antique stores. The statue is a representation of Claude Chana (1811-1882), the prospector who discovered gold here in the foothills east of Sacramento on May 16, 1848. Auburn dentist Ken Fox, creator of the Great Statues of Auburn, sculpted the miner at the request of the town. It’s made of a rebar and wire mesh framework covered in concrete. Fox sculpted the miner between appointments at his still operating dental practice on the other side of town, where more of his statues, constructed in the early 1970s, stand. The Auburn Art Park includes a main stage, a permanent mosaic American River display, murals, and seasonal art installations.
